  PROJECTS

These are some of the projects SEN Opportunities has recently supported:

Research to support access to provision

SEN Opportunities is currently supporting a research project on social return on investment and value for money of non-maintained special schools.

Many pupils struggle to secure appropriate placement due to the high fees at specialist non-maintained schools and colleges, particularly where residential provision is involved. The aim of the project is to provide a template report that can be used by schools to evidence the potential value for money of their school when looking at the longer term and broader impact their provision offers.

We will keep you posted on developments!

A national stammering charity

SEN Opportunities has provided financial support to further the impact of the specialist service Action for Stammering Children provides. The charity supports  the 150,000 children and young people (and their families and schools) in the UK who stammer.

The charity's vision is a society where children and young people who stammer have the same opportunities and quality of life as their peers.

The residential unit of a special school

SEN Opportunities has provided financial support to the residential provision of an independent primary school with a focus on speech and language specialism.

The school has a residential house that enables children who live further away to benefit from the speech and language expertise that is not available in most schools. Local children also benefit from overnight enrichment opportunities.

Employment opportunities for learning disability individuals

SEN Opportunities has provided financial support to two cafes providing paid employment to young adults with learning disability.

With fewer than 6% of adults with learning disability in paid employment, there is considerable need fo  not-for -profit sustainable business models offering opportunities to gain skills and confidence with appropriate support.
